Psalm 142: 4-5 and 1 Samuel 18:1-4
This sermon addresses the pervasive issue of loneliness in modern society, acknowledging it as a universal human experience rather than something to be ashamed of. The message emphasizes that loneliness, like hunger, serves a purposeful function—it prompts us to seek authentic relationships and community. The sermon offers three sources of light in the darkness of loneliness: genuine friendship, authentic community, and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Drawing from both Old Testament narratives and contemporary research, the message challenges listeners to be vulnerable, step out of their comfort zones, and actively build meaningful connections. The core theological insight is that God designed us for relationship, both with one another and with Him, and that Christ's presence offers the ultimate remedy for our deepest loneliness.
