Matthew 19:26 (NIV)
Jesus looked at them and said, ”With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Reflection:
When we hear the word powerful we might think of a world leader, or a baseball player hitting a grand slam, or even a Category 4 hurricane. Our human concept of power usually means a physical strength or a strong effect on someone or something. We think of using this power to obtain our wants and desires. More often than not we are relying on our own power to achieve our goals.

But what about God’s power? Throughout the Bible we see God’s power in so many stories…the parting of the Red Sea, Daniel and the Lion, David vs. Goliath, and on and on. God’s power is so much more than physical strength, it is life-changing and allows us to accomplish the impossible.

Before my father suddenly passed away many years ago, my brother was already struggling with substance abuse and his sickness snowballed after my father’s death.  Even though it took a year or two, through God’s power my brother was able to get sober and now he has come to rely on God’s strength, not his own, to stay healthy. God made the impossible possible.

It is easier to rely on our own power rather than seeking God’s will in our lives because we are not patient nor do we want to do the difficult things God asks of us.  But the great news is when we open our hearts we see that God uses His power in our situations to accomplish His perfect will so He will be glorified.  When we seek God’s power it not only glorifies God but we become a witness to others around us how awesome our God is and we are transformed. If we can just get out of our own way and let God’s power protect us it will allow the impossible to become possible. It’s just like Jesus said,“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Closing Prayer:
Dear Lord, I confess I don’t always rely on you to give me strength in my time of weakness but I am so grateful for your constant protection and transformative power in my life. I pray I always remember the impossible is only possible with you and glorifies your holy name. In your powerful name I pray, Amen.
