Psalm 71:7-8 (NLT)
My life is an example to many, because you have been my strength and protection. That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long.

Reflection:
It is not lost on me how many miracles I’ve experienced, and I am fully aware of how good I am at taking credit for God’s work (save that for later). A few days ago a woman that has been coming to take my class at the gym stayed after to apologize for being late. A few days earlier, I’d overheard her talking to another member who asked if she was late because the class started too early for people who were just getting off work. She’d candidly replied that she was late because she was depressed and it was hard for her to get out of her house these days.

So, you can imagine how big my eyes got when I saw her walk into my class a second time in one week. I could tell that she was nervous as she walked in, but I couldn’t contain my excitement when I announced in the mic, “I’m so glad you made it! There’s room for you in the front. Right by me!”

After class she walked alongside me talking while I sanitized the equipment and put it away. She told me that I had no idea how much that greeting meant to her and I explained that I did. I told her that I knew firsthand what an accomplishment it was that she’d peeled herself out of bed, put clothes on and came to workout. She told me that she felt safe with me and proceeded to tell me what she’s experienced in the last several months. When I didn’t react she asked me why I wasn’t in shock – that “most people’s jaws would be on the floor.” Listen, this is not a competition, but in my head I was thinking, Lady, I’ve been through some things myself. Instead I assured her that I knew from experience that she can and will get through this.

It’s such a human thing to ask someone how they can be so sure of what they are saying, and I told her with calm and confidence that my life is an example of God’s strength and protection and the best part of all: that it’s available to anyone. Remember that part about me taking credit for God’s work? This mostly applies when I make it somewhere I’m supposed to be on time, as if I’m solely responsible for delivering myself unharmed. Well, some of my most favorite compliments I’ve received are that I am resilient and strong; in all of the ways a person can be: physically, mentally and emotionally. My strength is one attribute I will never take credit for. On Christ the solid rock I stand…that is the foundation of my resilience. Whether I am at home steeped in the comfort of my beautiful house or out in the world, I am never afraid to simply enjoy life because I know that God is protecting me. To God be all the glory!

Closing Prayer:
God, thank you for all of the ways that you keep me in your loving care each day. Knowing that your strength and protection is available to me anytime I ask is so comforting. I hope others will come to feel peace knowing you are there for them, as I have. In your name I pray. Amen.
