“I want to challenge each of you to think of someone who needs to be told these words, ‘I love you and there’s nothing you can do about it.’ After you have told them, you can explain that this is what God says to each of us every day. Spread the good news.”

Excerpt from Rev. Denham’s sermon from August 5, 2012

Reverend Bill Denham was appointed to St. Luke’s UMC in June of 2012 and served as Pastor of Caring for eight years. He loved the staff and church family well, especially in times of sickness, hospitalization, loss and grief. He was also a part of our celebrations of life, showing up at the hospitals for many births and marrying many young couples. He famously made over 87,600 birthday calls in his time at St. Luke’s. Although he did not preach often, Bill’s sermons always led us to the love of Christ and urged us to pass it along.

Son of a Baptist preacher, Bill was born and raised in Houston and was an alumnus of River Oaks Elementary, Lanier Junior High, and Lamar High School. He continued his education with a B.A. from the University of Texas. Following a stint in the business world, he received his Masters of Divinity from SMU Perkins School of Theology in 2004

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Laura, their adult children Will, Martha, and Jim, and their six “practically perfect” grandchildren.
