God,
Most of the time, the love you show me is like the air I breathe. It sustains me each and every moment, but I am not really aware of it. I go through my days with the assurance of my salvation, but my focus is on the tasks and opportunities each hour provides. Every once in a while, however, it washes over me – just the sheer wonder and amazement of your love for me, shown in Jesus Christ. In these amazing moments, I experience your powerful and loving presence as a jolt of lightning, a breath of fresh air. All I can do is lift up my heart and thank you, praise you, worship you. Like the shepherds, the angels, the magi, like Elizabeth, Zechariah, Simeon, Mary, the joy and praise wells up inside me and demands expression. Like the shepherds who left their fields to go and see the newborn king, like the magi from the east who made the grueling journey just to offer their worship, I am compelled by the joy and gratitude inside me to give voice in some way to what is in my heart. In those moments, “I can’t keep it in, can’t keep it in; I gotta let it out.”
God, thank you for these special moments. I know that there are so many more available to me if I would just open myself up to noticing them. As I go through this special season, break into my daily walk and reveal your extraordinary love in the midst of my ordinary days. Amen
