A PERSONAL PRAYER
O God, loving Jesus, transforming Spirit,
I read again this week the words of Gabriel to Mary in Luke 1: “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” So he reigns over Jacob’s descendants, but does he reign over me?
Jesus, will I let you in my mind to control my thoughts? Will I let you into my heart to control my spirit? Will I let you into my very life to control my actions, my words, the way I spend my money, the way I spend my time, the words I say to others? Will I submit my very will that it might be conformed to the way of life you showed me, “the life that truly is life?” (1 Timothy 6:19)
God, I commit to that once again today. I know it will not happen overnight, but I pray that you, Holy Spirit, will continue to work within me that it might be so and that I may mature and one day, be made perfect in love. Amen.
