A PERSONAL PRAYER

God,

Tell me what to do with my money. (Oh shoot, just at the start of the prayer, I reveal much of my own problem. It isn’t my money. It’s yours. Everything I have belongs to you, and you have put me in charge of it. So let’s start over.)

God, tell me what to do with the money I am to manage. I know it is provided for a purpose. Show me how to make wise decisions when using it to care for my family and our needs, our wants, our hopes, our dreams, and for the needs of those in the world around me. Show me how to invest wisely for the future, and yet not put my trust in investments but rather in you. Lead me to align my choices with the values I claim. Show me how to be as generous with others as you are with me. Remind me that every dollar I am given is to be used to advance your kingdom and to fulfill the calling you have for my life, as a husband and father, a pastor and citizen and a part of a church community, a neighbor and a caring human being. Open up my hands, and my heart to both give and to receive.

Above all, God, I pray that I might put my treasure in you, so that my heart would be there also.

In the name of the one who gave it all, I pray. Amen.
