Throughout the Gospels, we find that when Jesus was faced with overwhelming needs in his community, he was moved with compassion that propelled him to act. As we hear of the mounting needs in the Deer Park and Pasadena communities following the tornadoes that struck those communities on January 24, we too are moved with compassion.

Here are some ways we can put our compassion into action:

  • Serve on a clean-up crew. One of our Community Partners, the Restoration Team, is organizing crews as we speak. Send  an email to Rev. Amy Sumrall if you are interested in serving, and she will get you connected to an opportunity to serve.
  • Gather supplies. The most immediate needs are for cleaning products, hygiene products, and water. Please bring items to the Blanton building, located at the southeast corner of the main parking lot (adjacent to the soccer field) during the following times: Monday-Wednesday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., or Sunday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • To provide financial assistance in the tornado affected areas, click here to make a gift online or text dollar amount to 832-669-5500 followed by the word “urgent”.
  • As you know, disaster recovery—both physical and emotional—takes time. Commit to praying for our sisters and brothers in the Deep Park and Pasadena communities in the weeks and months ahead—that God would provide them with safety, resources, strength, and a deep reassurance that they are not alone. In addition, pray that God would empower us to find ways to become the answers to these prayers.
